It’s impossible not to have dreamy preconceptions about your vacation resort experience when it’s freezing at home and those infinity pools just photograph so well. The unique characteristics of a truly great resort, however, cannot be captured in an advertisement, a photograph, or even customer reviews. Put simply, there is no substitute for experiencing it yourself and our stay at the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort was a delightful example of just that.

As avid travelers, we sometimes struggle with the idea of a staying at a resort because it means committing to a single place for a sense of culture, food and entertainment for days or a week at a time. It’s difficult to tell whether you are getting an authentic glimpse of the local culture or just a facade. One of the first things that becomes very clear at the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo is that they work very hard to keep an authentic Costa Rican “Pura Vida” atmosphere.

The small buildings are arched and built into the hillside as not to disrupt the canopy of surrounding forest and the employees are enthusiastic and passionate. There are two separate restaurants on either end of the property which means there is always a surprising selection of locally sourced cuisine to choose from. One of the highest points on the property, besides our balcony, is the spa which overlooks the Culebra Bay. We had one of the highest rooms at the resort with a balcony that also looks to the Southeast from where you can keep an eye on sailboats, paddle boarders and jet skis.

Needless to say we had an absolute blast. It was, of course, a tease to be in Costa Rica for such a short period of time, but the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort was the best introduction we could have imagined to such an incredible country. We’ll be back; pura vida!

This is a sponsored post, we gotta make a living, right!?
